Penny Wars & Trivia Results!

5 02 2010

I am pleased to announce that the SBA Senate has raised over $1500 between our Penny Wars and Trivia Fundraisers. The winning team of the Penny Wars was the 2L Class with 5174 points ($58.46), followed by Sections 1 and 2 of the 1L class. The highest grossing team was Section 1 with $94.45.

Trivia was also a great success with about 100 students attending to raise additional funds. The winning team was “Blue Crush.”

All of the money raised will be donated to a charity in order to support the relief effort in Haiti.

A special thanks is owed to the Class of 2012 Representatives for coordinating both events.

I would also like to announce the results of our special election for the American Bar Association Representative. The new ABA Rep is Joshua Bolin, Class of 2012. Congratulations to all the candidates and we look forward to a successful Spring semester.

Penny Wars

25 01 2010

Fellow students,

The SBA Senate is organizing a fundraiser to aid in the relief efforts taking place in Haiti from the earthquake of Jan. 12th and the recurring aftershocks that will continue for weeks.

We will be setting up a Penny War donation competition across from the library running from Monday 1/25 through Friday 1/29.  As this is a completely fundraiser-driven effort, the reward for the winning class will be bragging rights.

The rules are pretty simple and are outlined below.  We understand as law students we are strapped for cash, but anything you can give will help, even loose change from your pockets.

Penny Wars is a game of points. The class with the highest point total wins.  The rules are pretty easy:

  • Every penny in your classes container counts as -1 (negative 1).
  • Every nickel, dime, quarter, half dollar, Sacajawea dollar (if you can find one), count as 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 points respectively. (positive points)
  • Paper money is allowed and counts accordingly.
  • IOUs do not count.
  • TEAM WITH HIGHEST POSITIVE POINT TOTAL WINS.

Creativity is welcome…just stick to the following Rules:

  • Rule 1: No stealing from other containers, or stealing the containers period.
  • Rule 2: U.S. Currency only.
  • Rule 3: No tampering with the opening where money is placed.
  • Rule 4: No tampering/changing the identity of the container (no switching 2L to 3L etc. etc.).
  • Rule 5: Containers can’t be moved.
  • Rule 6: No foreign objects in the containers.

Containers will be across from the Library starting today.
